It takes three working days to process your paperwork. For example if you wanted to get married on a Thursday, you would need to arrive on the island on a Monday, register on Tuesday morning and then you could be married on a Thursday. Do we need to bring any special paperwork? The Attorney General’s office requires immigration stamp in your valid passport and the slip from immigration. If there was a divorce you will need the papers (either original papers with the decree of absolution or a certified copy which can be obtained from a notary republic. If you have a name change, valid passport, divorce papers an original or certified and a decree of absolution, if there is a name change discrepancy you will have to prove it, otherwise you will have to have an affidavit swearing you are who you are. What is the procedure for registering to get married once we are on the Island? This is where the adventure begins... 1) First you will go to the post office in Road Town and purchase a wedding stamp for $110. The post office is also a very interesting location on the island as you are able to purchase valued philatelic commemorative stamps. Tortola is a unique island, in that it is a British dependent territory with a unique collection of stamps. The newest stamp printed on 8 April, 2008 is the Princess Diana 10th anniversary of her death. The stamp costs sixty cents and the cover is for ninety cents. 2) Second you will go to the Attorney General’s office in the East Wind of the Administration building on the second floor and see Ms. Thomas. She will assist in filling out the marriage registration form. 3) Lastly you will go to the Registrar of births, deaths, and marriages at the roundabout in Road Town, second floor above Varieties and Electronics. You will need to know the names of your witnesses at that time. *After all of that, which takes approximately 1 ½ hours, you will be on your way down the aisle! How do we organize the flowers?
